€66,172 for four Mayo projects under Community Monuments Fund
COUNTY Mayo is to receive a total of €66,172 towards four archaeological heritage projects under the Community Monuments Scheme 2021.
The core objective of the fund is to support the conservation, maintenance, protection and promotion of local monuments and historic sites.
The projects approved in Mayo are:
Kill Abbey - €37,807
Knockatemple Ecclesiastical Site - €6,888
Kilgeever Abbey - €11,685
Killmovee Heritage Trail - €9,792
Welcoming the announcement, Deputy Michael Ring commented: “I am delighted with this funding for Mayo which will enable conservation works to be carried out on archaeological monuments which are deemed to be significant.
“The funding will also encourage access and help toward making our archaeological monuments able to withstand the effects of climate change.”
