Planning granted for new Lidl store in Mayo

LIDL Ireland has welcomed the decision from An Bord Pleanála to grant permission for a brand-new, state-of-the-art Lidl store in Claremorris.

The retailer is now set to invest more than €6 million in the locality as part of the project, that will create 35 new permanent jobs with Lidl and bring the retailer's store network in the county to five. The project will also support 80 additional local construction jobs through the development phase.

Lidl’s plans for the new location on Kilcolman Road are set to incorporate a range of sustainability features including an ISO 50001 certified energy management system, electric vehicle charger spaces and a solar panel system. It will also offer the retailer’s growing customer base a superior shopping experience with a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles.

“We have had a long-standing desire to offer a superior shopping experience in the vibrant and thriving community of Claremorris, and as such we are pleased with the decision to grant permission for a brand new store in the town this week,” commented Brian Smyth, regional property executive for Lidl Ireland

“Not only will this new Lidl store bring significant local investment, new jobs and market leading prices and quality to the local community, in addition, it will bring more fundraising for local ladies Gaelic football clubs, schools and charity groups in the area.

“Our team are looking forward to facilitating open lines of communication with the local residents to keep them informed of progress of the new store.”

In January, Lidl also announced its plans to recruit 22 new employees to its Mayo-based operations this year, in addition to the 35 roles as part of the Claremorris application. These new jobs are planned to support a variety of operational roles across its existing four stores, which forms part of an overall commitment of 1,200 new roles in Ireland this year.
