National distinction for top Mayo soccer club

A fourth Mayo soccer club has received a distinction from the Football Association of Ireland.

In recognition of best practice in the governance, management, and administration of a football club, Westport United have been awarded the FAI Club Mark, joining Castlebar Celtic, Kilmurry Youth Soccer and Achill Rovers among the recipients.

The aims of the FAI Club Mark are to establish minimum operating criteria for football clubs, provide clubs with a road map to good governance, management and administration, support clubs on their journey, reward clubs for achieving and maintaining high standards, provide recognition to clubs for their commitment and achievements, and increase club’s capacity to operate effectively and grow football in communities throughout Ireland.

“Thanks to all our players, managers, sponsors, supporters and all our volunteers who continue to work so hard behind the scenes to ensure that we improve both on and off the pitch,” said a statement from Westport United.

The Club Mark will be presented at a later date.
