Council meeting with Mayo GAA to discuss centre of excellence plans

A MEETING is to take place between Mayo GAA and the county council this week to discuss the GAA board's plans for a centre of excellence at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar.

Councillors have been pushing for answers from the GAA, with no sign of the multi-million euro project progressing on the 27-acre site.

The new chief executive of Mayo County Council, Kevin Kelly, confirmed yesterday (Monday) the Lannagh project is one he is reviewing.

He has a meeting with the GAA this week which will be to discuss where it is currently at and what the plans are for the future.

Arising from that, he would would hope that by the September meeting the council might be in a position to outline to the members where he sees things and what they might do in respect of the future at Lough Lannagh.

Mr. Kelly confirmed it is receiving ongoing attention at the moment.

He was responding to a request for an update from Councillor Michael Kilcoyne at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council.
