Moves to transform derelict properties into new Mayo housing stock

Mayo County Council is liaising with the Central Housing Office in respect of examining derelict properties in the Castlebar Municipal District with a view to using them to increase housing supply.

Currently there are 53 properties in the area.

The council is looking at progressing two compulsory purchase orders while plans are being drafted for other sites.

Two elected members, Councillor Michael Kilcoyne and Councillor Donnia Sheridan, have been calling for an action plan to addresses these sites.

A number of streets in Castlebar are in urgent need of action.
