Former Mayo garda stations sold at auction

TWO former garda stations in Mayo made €230,000 between them when sold at auction today (Friday).

The eight-bedroom former garda station premises in Hollymount sold for €138,000. The two-storey, semi-detached Georgian building was constructed around 1819.

O'Donnellan & Joyce Auctioneers also put the old Ballyglass garda station under the hammer and it sold for €92,000.

Lying on a large corner site, it comprised a semi-detached residence and outbuildings. Built originally as a hotel around 1850, the property was converted to an RIC barracks in the early 1900s and operated as a garda station from the 1920s.
