Chambers welcomes new youth project for Erris

THE news that Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB were successful in their application to develop a new youth project for the Erris area has been welcomed by Mayo Fianna Fáil Senator Lisa Chambers.

Following a national competition held by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY), which was open to all 16 ETBs in the country to enter, just two projects were successful and Erris was one of them.

Said Senator Chambers: “Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB deserve huge credit for putting the proposal together and getting it over the line. Well done to all the team involved. This project is a game changer for youth services in Erris.”

The project, she explained, will work with young people from 10 years of age upwards. The focus of the project is to provide out-of-school support to young people in the local community to enable them to achieve their full potential, particularly where there might be challenging or difficult circumstances.

“The aim is to allow young people to develop their self-confidence, resilience and creativity.

“Investment in our young people is an investment in our country's future. Erris has a genuine need for youth services for those younger cohorts and I am delighted to see the provision of a brand new youth project, it will yield great benefits for the community, she said”

The ETB is aiming to have the project up and running by the end of 2021.
