Councillor unhappy as Westport tourist office remains closed
AS Westport experiences a busy summer with staycations, the fact the town's tourist office remains closed has been bemoaned by a local councillor.
Councillor Christy Hyland appreciated the closure due to Covid, but said that surely a door could be open with a counter across where people could get leaflets.
Tourists, he said, are going into the town hall when its open and calling into shops.
He was asking Fáilte Ireland: “What is the story with the tourist office in Westport?”
Their PR was a disaster, he added, as they had not released a statement saying they were closed and were remaining closed.
Councillor Hyland was speaking at a Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting this week.
