Pieta set to hire more therapists in the Connaught region

Pieta, the national suicide and self-harm prevention charity, has announced it is on a recruitment drive to hire additional therapists for its centres in Ballina, Galway and Tuam.

Pieta employs more than 200 qualified therapists and support staff across 20 locations nationally, and its services are in greater demand than ever before.

In Galway alone, 31% of clients presenting to Pieta have attempted suicide and one in four have been bereaved by suicide. Some of the triggers identified included depression and anxiety (50%), loneliness (27%) and family issues (19%).

Speaking about the recruitment, Pieta regional manager, Gráinne McGill, said: “Here at Pieta, we envision a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma can be replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance, and we welcome new therapists with the same vision.

“We have seen a 30% increase in calls and texts overall, which shows that our services are needed now more than ever. I would like to acknowledge the support of the people in Galway and Mayo – their generosity for the recent Darkness Into Light Sunrise Appeal, proudly supported by Electric Ireland, has made this recruitment drive a reality. We are extremely thankful for this.”
