Mayo solicitor joins the team at Callan Tansey
Swinford native Paul Cunney has joined Callan Tansey Solicitors LLP, based in their Ballina office.
On retiring from the Army with the rank of captain in 2004, Paul qualified as a solicitor in 2007, completing his traineeship with P. O’Connor & Son Solicitors in Swinford.
During his Army career, Paul served overseas in South Lebanon, East Timor and was a UN observer based in Western Sahara in West Africa.
A former Mayo minor and senior footballer, Paul played his club football with Swinford and St. Jude’s, Templeogue, and also captained the UCG (now NUIG) Sigerson Cup team in 1996. More recently he has been involved in the Mayo minor team management as a selector and defence coach.
Paul also served as director of the Family Centre in Castlebar from 2015 to 2017. This is a charity founded and supported by the Diocese of Tuam. It provides counselling services and supports for young people.
Currently he is chairman for Mental Health Tribunals. The tribunal reviews the involuntary admission of patients to approved centres which is required under the Mental Health Act 2001.
Paul has particular expertise in personal injury litigation, employment law and mental health law.
