Funeral of man who died in hiking accident on Mayo mountain

The funeral has taken place of Kieran James Halliwell, 33 Lime Avenue, Urmston, Manchester, England, and Tully, Renvyle, Co. Galway, who died in a hiking accident at Mwellrea Mountain last week.

He was son of Bob and Mary, brother to Catherine, Bernadette and Rachel and adored uncle of Jacob, Shéa and Coen.

Kieran will also be sadly missed by his uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, neighbours and friends in Renvyle, his work colleagues in Greater Manchester and his friends in the football community, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Funeral Mass took place in Christ the King Church, Tullycross, this morning followed by repatriation to England.

The deceased was well known and highly respected in English amateur football circles.

A tribute to him by Atherton Town FC said: “He was a light in this world and really was one of a kind.

“We are mourning the loss of our friend and companion who made an impression on everyone he met.”

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
