What's the story with Mayo and the Hill 16 end of Croke Park?

By Aiden Henry

Is there something about the Hill 16 end of Croke Park that Mayo players are not comfortable with?

Despite having played more times in the famed ground than anyone apart from Dublin in recent years, they seem to find scoring into the Hill end difficult.

This is not just when Mayo have been playing the Dubs, when they have to contend with the huge band of Blue Army supporters.

For example, against Galway in the Connacht final, a game Mayo won by 2-14 to 2-8, they only scored six points playing into the Hill end.

Then, against Dublin, only four of Mayo’s total of 0-17 points were scored when playing into the Hill – and this included the extra time period.

Perhaps it's just coincidental, but this kind of return at one end of Croke Park on All-Ireland final day might not just be enough.
