Mayo's Matthew Ruane in Footballer of the Year frame

Midfielder Matthew Ruane is Mayo’s leading contender for the Football of the Year accolade.

BoyleSports have the Breaffy man at 10/3, while Lee Keegan is an increasingly popular selection ahead of Saturday's All-Ireland final having shortened into 8/1 from 14/1 this week.

Mayo, who overturned a six-point half-time deficit in their semi-final to finally end Dublin’s run as All-Ireland champions, are odds-on favourites at 8/13 to get their hands on Sam Maguire for the first time since 1951, while another Tyrone upset is rated an 11/8 shot as Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher seek to make a perfect finish to their first season in charge.

While they're underdogs for Sam, Tyrone’s Kieran McGeary is the frontrunner for the Footballer of the Year crown. Having played an influential role in the semi-final victory over Kerry, he was quickly gambled into 4/1 from 66/1 to be decorated with the award after he was named man of the match after the final whistle.

Now, BoyleSports have clipped him further into 5/2 favourite, with team-mate Conor Meyler also coming in for support, forcing his chances to be cut into 15/2 from 10/1.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “The Footballer of the Year race isn’t as clear-cut this year as it has been in recent seasons, with plenty of candidates being backed from both All-Ireland finalists.

“Lee Keegan and Matthew Ruane have been well supported for Mayo, but Kieran McGeary is our favourite at 5/2 from 4/1 off the back of sustained backing in the north this week.”
