Mayo hospital under pressure due to overcrowding problems

Mayo University Hospital is dealing with overcrowding problems today.

Up to 24 patients are being accommodated on trolleys at the Castlebar facility.

Up to 15 are in the emergency department with the remainder in wards elsewhere.

Nationally, a total of 379 admitted patients are waiting for beds, according to today’s INMO Trolley Watch.

Of those, 275 patients are waiting in the emergency department while 104 are in wards elsewhere in the hospital.

There are 85 patients on trolleys in University Hospital Limerick, the highest daily figure for any hospital since the start of the pandemic.
