Mayo hospital staff member to shave her head in aid of Down Syndrome facility

Castlebar native Josie Scott, also known as "Ted", is shaving her head in aid of the fully accessible playground located at Down Syndrome Ireland West regional Centre in Swinford.

She also has a few friends roped into doing it with her.

Ted is a valued team member of Mayo University Hospital for the last 20 years.

Ted's colleague Maria Jordan said: "Everyone knows Ted, she'd do anything for you.

"When you're under pressure Ted is always to the rescue. She's one in a million.

"Towards the end of the summer Ted got very poorly at work, she ended up being rushed to Galway University Hospital.

"The whole hospital was so concerned.

"Her closest colleagues were distraught, many tears were shed those two weeks, but Ted being Ted she pulled through and is in flying form.

"She will be getting treatment this winter, we are with her every step of the way."

Maria has a little boy, Dara, who has Down Syndrome.

So when Ted decided to shave her head for charity there was only one charity she had in mind.

Maria and the Down Syndrome community will be forever grateful to Ted!

Maria and Ted together are dynamite!

They love plotting and planning so this is right up their street.

The money will go towards the fully accessible playground, located at the new Down Syndrome West regional centre in Swinford which, working with Mayo County Council, will be open to all children with different disabilities.

It will be a place of great joy and happiness, and will be a great representation of what Ted brings to everyone she meets.

Maria has set up a go fund page https://bit.ly/Tedandfriends and the hospital is covered in posters for support.

Added Maria: "We really appreciate the support thus far.

"Ted will be shaving her head in the Bungalow Bar on October 25 over the bank holiday weekend.

"We would appreciate everyone's support."
