Overcrowding problems ease somewhat at Mayo hospital today

Overcrowding problems at Mayo University Hospital have eased somewhat.

The number of patients on trolleys due to the unavailability of beds has dropped from the mid-20s over the past few days to 16 today.

There are eight in the emergency department and eight in wards elsewhere.

Nationally, 456 admitted patients are waiting for beds, according to today’s INMO Trolley Watch. 379 patients are waiting in the emergency department while 77 are in wards elsewhere in the hospital.

Galway University Hospital has 48 patients on trolleys and Letterkenny University Hospital has 56.
