Mayo Arts Service Awards recipients announced

MAYO County Council's Arts Service has announced the recipients of awards for 2021.

Cally Anna is the recipient of the Music Recording Assistance Award, Ann Fahy and Sighle Hughes are recipients of the Drama League Ireland Summer School Awards, with Mick Donnellan receiving the Theatre Bursary Award.

Cally Anna is a singer songwriter from Castlebar. Her music spans across a number of genres including folk, rock, blues, ballads and traditional. Her album entitled Goddess in Me was released in October this year.

Ann Fahy is a Mayo-based actor and member of the Ray Leonard Drama Group in Claremorris. She has previously acted with many other groups, including Garrymore Drama Group, Charlestown Drama Group, and Claremorris Drama Group.

Sighle Hughes has a keen interest in drama having been involved in numerous amateur drama groups in school. She founded the Wilde River Drama Group in Ballinrobe in 2016 and has gone on to perform in numerous productions since then.

Ballinrobe-based theatre practitioner Mick Donnellan completed the MA in Writing at NUI Galway in 2004. Since then he has worked as a novelist, journalist, travel writer, teacher and playwright and went on to work with Druid (2009) and RTÉ (2010).

Mayo County Council Arts Service recognises the rich contribution which artistes make to the cultural life of the county. The range of applications for this award highlights the wide range, quality and diversity of established and emerging arts practitioners and groups in Mayo.
