Mayo records 553 new Covid cases in past fortnight with Castlebar hardest hit

A total of 553 new Covid cases have been notified in Mayo during the 14-day period from October 12 to 25 last, bringing the total to 10,866 since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The hardest hit area was the Castlebar electoral area which recorded 233 positive cases and, consequently, its 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 of its population of 29,992 rose to 776.9. . .considerably above the national average of 587.1

Eighty-three new cases were registered in the Ballina electoral area, giving a rate of 330.5

Swinford recorded 81 news cases, leaving it with a rate of 468.6.

Up to 79 new cases were identified in the Claremorris area and it now has a rate of 291.1

Westport had 62 new cases, giving it a rate of 337.4.

The Belmullet area identified 15 new cases and its incidence rate is now 119.

A total of 198 Covid deaths have been registered in Mayo to date.
