A conversation about death - Dying to Talk
A CONVERSATION about death - Dying to Talk - will take place over four evenings this November in Westport.
The series will take place in a safe, nurturing space, facilitated by Tereasa McGuire, who counsels people at end of life.
As Tereasa explains: “We humanoids all face a terminal condition called death. We will all die at some stage but the when is not known to us, so why are we afraid, reluctant to talk about this?
“We Irish are noted for our wakes and the grieving process but what about the ante room before the death portal. What are our wishes, our wants, our desires as we approach this time? Where do we want to be, who do we want to be with us? Who do we want to do what?
“The great big elephant in the room is never addressed, it is hidden and tucked away until there is no escape, no time.”
Tereasa will facilitate this great conversation in a safe, welcoming, nurturing space over four Tuesdays this month - November 9, 16, 23 and 30 - in The Walnut Suite in the Plaza Hotel, Westport, from 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. each evening.
“We will look at the history of the death story, the medicalisation of death and its fallout, with the cultural impact,” she said. “We will look at the readiness, the practical readiness we can employ to make this final chapter easier for ourselves and those whom we love.”
The cost for the four nights is €80, with tea and coffee included.
