HSE reveals plan to provide temporary day care services at Mayo social services centre

Considerable work has been undertaken at a local level in order to re-open the day care services at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar.

In response to a query by local Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, a statement issued by Community Healthcare West explained: "Further to assessment of the significant work and the timeframe associated with redressing the heating issues in the Sacred Heart Hospital day care facility, an interim solution has been progressed in order to re-establish day care through Castlebar Social Services, potentially three days a week.

"We await a response from the social services board.

"While we acknowledge this will be a reduced service for a period, it is provides an immediate solution in terms of re-activating day care.

"The longer term plan is to return to hospital.

"The abatement of Covid-19 pandemic and the return of St. John's Ward from Saolta to Community Healthcare West’s governance will allow us relocate Rehab and provide the existing St. Joseph’s Ward for alternative functions such as day services.

"We are hopeful of a positive response from the board of the social services board and will keep you informed of any further developments in relation to re-opening."
