Big development plans at two Mayo schools

BALLINROBE Community School has received the green light by Mayo County Council for a single storey extension.

To be constructed at the rear of the existing school on Convent Road, it will accommodate new classrooms and other facilities.

Meanwhile, the pupils and staff of Glencastle National School in north Mayo can also look forward to new improved facilities.

The board of management has been given planning permission to remove roadside prefabricated accommodation and to demolish a rear standalone special needs education building.

Their plans, approved by Mayo County Council, will see the construction of single storey extensions to the existing building consisting of a new administration facility to the front and a special needs education facility to the rear.

Alterations and energy upgrade works will also take place within the existing school building, and the plans also include the installation of a replacement wastewater treatment system, car parking and a bus drop-off point at the school in Bunnahowen, Ballina.
