Mayo students awarded Naughton Foundation scholarships

TWO Mayo students have been announced as Naughton Foundation scholars for 2021.

The Naughton Foundation's scholarship programme was established in 2008 to promote the study of engineering, science and technology at third-level in Ireland. Each year a number of exceptional students - 37 this year - are awarded scholarships to study at undergraduate level.

The two Mayo recipients are Hana Ueno, from St. Louis Community School, Kiltimagh, who is studying engineering at Trinity College Dublin, and Róisín Kelly, Balla Secondary School, who is studying mathematics at University of Limerick.

Both completed their Leaving Certificate this year, with Hana making national headlines when she achieved nine H1s in her exams, which would total 925 points, one of only two students nationally to accomplish such an outstanding result.
