Major funding boost for leading Mayo meat processors

The Dawn Meats plant in Ballyhaunis is one of 22 projects in the meat and dairy sectors across the country that will receive funding to enable them to develop and diversify following Britain’s exit from the European Union.

The government’s €70 million capital investment scheme for the processing and marketing of agricultural products will help farmers and those working in food production to diversify their offering, attract new markets and customers and make their business more resilient and sustainable into the long-term.

Dawn Meats will receive €1,601,700 in funding for capital enhancements at its Ballyhaunis and Kilbeggan, Westmeath, facilities.

Welcoming the news, Mayo Senator Lisa Chambers commented: “The government is committed to supporting our agri-food sector and ensuring that Ireland’s reputation for high-quality, safe, and sustainable food production is maintained and enhanced.

“I am delighted to see that Dawn Meats’ Ballyhaunis facility is one of the projects to receive this investment.

"New product development and market diversification go hand-in-hand. It will benefit farmers and the wider industry.”
