Community events urged to sign up to Home to Mayo

COMMUNITIES around Mayo holding events next summer are being urged to contact Mayo County Council and get involved in the Home to Mayo celebrations.

Home to Mayo is part of the global Irish festival series and it takes place in May 2022, with events right around the county for the whole month. It will be launched on Mayo Day.

Director of services Joanne Grehan has encouraged communities to come on board with their events - all information is on the event website, https://www.mayo.ie/hometomayo2022.

“We need to do all we can to support and reinvigorate our festivals series and tourism in the county,” she told councillors at a Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting.

Councillor Michael Smyth has asked that funding for festivals be paid out earlier in the year than it has been, more as a 'start-up' grant before events take place.

Councillor Neil Cruise agreed it would be wise to front-load funding and get them up and running.
