Concern over state of CCTV security cameras on Mayo streets

An elected member of Mayo County Council has called for an audit to be conducted on security CCTV cameras on Mayo streets.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne said each one needs to be examined to establish if they are working or not.

He said the situation is particularly worrying in Castlebar where the cameras are not, according to his information, being examined or repaired on a regular basis.

"I know for a fact that some of the cameras installed at Main Street are not effective because the view is blocked by trees.

"We need to have an urgent review of the situation.

"We should know how many are working and how many are not.

"Those that are not should be immediately replaced. It's a serious matter."

Councillor Kilcoyne called for a detailed report on the condition and monitoring of the cameras.
