A recent case of illegal dumping highlighted by The Connaught Telegraph.

Council 'checking with residents close to where Mayo illegal dumping occurs'

THE blight of rubbish dumped along the roadsides has been been raised by Councillor Gerry Coyle.

When the verges are trimmed back you can see nothing but plastic bottles and now also face masks, he said.

The councillor wondered if eircodes could be linked to bin disposal to ensure everyone has a proper bin.

He was afraid there are people who don't have bins.

The situation, he said, it out of control and this summer took it to a new level.

Councillor Coyle made the point that someone can knock on your door looking for the TV licence but not with bins.

Director of services John Condon said where rubbish is dumped, in a follow up residents in an area are contacted asking for details of how they dispose of their rubbish.

To identify culprits, they were dependent on people coming forward with information.
