Funding of €40,000 to upgrade two Castlebar laneways

Two laneways in Castlebar are to be upgraded following the allocation of €40,000 in funding.

The lane beside Brewery Cup from Hopkins Road into Dunnes Stores car park will see the removal of existing bricks and old central bollards before resurfacing works and improvement of arches.

On the lane between Chestnut Grove and Station Road, the wall will be repaired, path resurfaced, the view at estate end opened up along with the installation of a new light to make it more attractive to use.

Wheel blockers are also to be installed at the nearby car park to prevent cars from striking the wall.

The news has been welcomed by Councillor Ger Deere who stated both locations were in need of attention.
