iMayo TV to feature Ballinrobe Racecourse memoir in 100th anniversary tribute

A HISTORY in the Making - a beautiful collection of memoirs, photographs and historical facts and behind the scenes snippets of Ballinrobe Racecourse - will be brought to life on iMayo TV in a programme dedicated to the launch of this new book.

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Ballinrobe Racecourse, the programme will feature interviews from the launch of the book with its author and key personnel who have been instrumental in the ongoing success of this vital Mayo venue.

The programme will air on iMayo TV on Sky Channel 191 on Thursday, November 25, at 7 p.m. with a repeat on Tuesday afternoon, November 30, at 12.30 p.m. People can also watch the programme on the iMayo TV YouTube Channel.

Edited by local historian Averil Staunton, A History in the Making tells the story of how Ballinrobe Racecourse developed at its current location, while looking back over major racecourse developments and remembering the many famous horses and jockeys who were successful at the busy and popular Mayo racecourse.

Speaking about the book, author Ms. Staunton said: “This publication is an acknowledgement of the work of past committees and supporters who worked diligently for the survival of the racecourse. Without them it would not be the success it is today.

“I would like to thank my editorial team of John, Anne and Claire Flannelly and Sean O’Connell, and all those who contributed to the book in any way. I hope this book brings back some wonderful memories and introduces new supporters to Ballinrobe Racecourse.”

John Flannelly, Ballinrobe Racecourse manager, added: “A History in the Making has been a labour of love for the racecourse committee and the team since we started the planning process in December 2019. Averil has put incredible work into the book which makes for a brilliant read and a great memento to celebrate Ballinrobe Racecourse’s milestone anniversary. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the book and shared their wonderful Ballinrobe stories.”
