Claremorris students and FRC to launch One Million Stars project

CLAREMORRIS FRC are delighted to launch the One Million Stars project to raise awareness for the international 16 days of action of ending violence against women.

This is a joint project with St. Colman's College (TY students), Claremorris Men's Shed and Claremorris Family Resource Centre.

The One Million Stars campaign began in Australia in 2021 when sadly an Irish woman was murdered. Each star symbolises light, hope and solidarity.

The students of St. Colman's College have been doing trojan work over the last few months weaving stars and working weekly at Claremorris Men's Shed on an art project which will be launched on Thursday, November 25, at 11 a.m. at The Square in Claremorris. All are invited to come along to The Square to join together in remembering those who have lost their lives in our communities and to generate conversations and promote awareness of supports and services available.

Claremorris FRC is a member of the community response to domestic violence western region network which was established over 20 years ago to raise awareness and ensure a coordinated response to ending domestic abuse in our communities.

Special thanks to Mags Costello (star maker) for the painstaking work in making over 500 stars for the display and teaching the TY students. Thanks also to Bronagh McLoughney (TY coordinator at St. Colman's College) for supporting teh FRC in getting this project to fruition. And to Lanna Heyrman (local artist) and Tom Casby (Claremorris Men's Shed) for facilitating workshops over the last few months in creating this amazing piece of art for all in the community to see. You truly have created an amazing piece to reflect the message of light, hope and solidarity.
