Prestigious award for Foxford bandmaster Laurie Barrett

Laurie Barrett, musical director of Foxford Brass and Reed Band, has been named as a Bands of Ireland award winner for 2021 for her work in promoting music.

In nominating her for the accolade, band member Seamus Bourke said: “I have met many people in many walks of life but I must tell you that Laurie stands tall amongst them and indeed she puts many in the shade.

“She is selfless and tireless in working for our band and all of this while holding a full time post and managing a busy homelife. She is our Bandmaster and one of our brass tutors.

“She teaches children and adults and organises our night classes.

“We the humble band members see her dedication and devotion to her music and the Foxford Brass and Reed Band day in and day out.

"I personally cannot praise her and thank her enough for what she contributes and this, I know, is echoed by all of us.

“In short Laurie is our treasure.”
