Car park at Mayo leisure complex being extended

The car park at the Leisure Complex at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar is being extended.

Work has been taking place on the project in recent days.

The overall cost is estimated in the region of €60,000.

Welcoming the investment, Councillor Blackie Gavin said it is an indication of how busy the facility has been since opening a number of years ago.

"The swimming pool and gymnasium are second to none and we are very proud in Castlebar to have them.

"The elected members and officials of Castlebar Municipal District are pursuing other options to further enhance the potential of the Lough Lannagh area," he added.

It is understood efforts are ongoing to complete, along with GMIT, the adjoining outdoor education pursuits centre and climbing wall facility, a building which has not opening to date due to a funding shortfall.
