New bus stop being built opposite busy Mayo hospital

A new bus stop is being constructed opposite the entrance to Mayo University Hospital.

Work on the project, funded by Mayo County Council, has got underway at St. Patrick's Avenue in Castlebar.

The new infrastructure will be very beneficial for patients travelling by bus to attend medical appointments at the facility.

It has resulted in the loss of a number of on-street parking spaces at the location.

However, there were ongoing calls by local elected representatives to have the bus stop put in place at the hospital.

Ann Sweeney, senior roads engineer, confirmed to members of Castlebar Municipal District in October that funding had been allocated for the project.
