Irish Water crews progressing repairs in Mayo town

Working in partnership with Mayo County Council, Irish Water is progressing repairs following a burst to a large water main impacting customers in Ballina.

The repairs are complex due to the location of the burst and the ground conditions being encountered, Irish Water said.

Dedicated water services crews are progressing the repairs but works will have to continue tomorrow and disruption to customers will continue until tomorrow evening.

The areas affected are: Coonealcauraun, Rathroeen, Culleens, Farranoo, Laghtadawnagh, Kilmoremoy, Abbeycourt, Belleek, Rathmeel, Garonkeel, Quignamanor, Ardoughan, Woodville, Friarscourt, Dernan Grove, Hawthorns, Castlefield Manor, The Olde Mill Stone, Killala Road, Ashbourne Grove, Newlands, Oaklawn, The Quay, Quignalecka, Sligo Road, Creggs Road, The Moorings, Riverside, Riverslade, Moyvale and the Bonniconlon area, which includes Bofield, Carrownlabaun, Rathreedaun and Carrowreagh.

To support impacted customers, alternative water supplies will be in place and IBCs with clean drinking water will be available at the following locations at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning: The Merry Monk, Killala Road; Crocketts on the Quay; Church Car Park, Bonnnicolon.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure. Irish Water would also like to remind the public to adhere to public health advice in relation to social distancing and mask wearing when collecting water from the tankers.

Gerard Greally, Irish Water, commented: “The repairs are being conducted as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption to the area and restore water for all customers. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate your patience as we work to restore normal water supply as quickly and as safely as possible.”

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Irish Water receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
