Walkers shocked by level of dashboard litter discarded along scenic Mayo route

Participants in the 54th annual Robert Kilkelly Walk yesterday have been left shocked by the level of dashboard rubbish discarded along the public roadway between Castlebar and the Windy Gap.

They could not believe the degree to which the situation has deteriorated over the past number of years.

It is clearly evident the majority of litter along the scenic route - most notably plastic bottles, coffee cups and fast-food wrapping paper - was thrown out of car windows by passing motorists.

Such a shame because the location is so rich in beauty.
