Request for additional lighting at popular Mayo lake

A REQUEST for additional lighting at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar has been made by a local public representative.

The need for lights on the path that goes from the top of the hill to the playground at the popular amenity will be raised at a local area council meeting next week.

On his social media, Councillor Ger Deere explained: “Last week when I took part in the Castlebar Mitchels Ireland Lights Up walk around Lough Lannagh, I was approached by a number of the participants. With the large crowd that was walking that night, these people mentioned to me the need for lighting at the back of the hill and how it would add to the wonderful facility that is the lake.

“Last October at the monthly municipal meeting, I brought this up and I will be raising it again next week at our monthly meeting.

“I will be asking the council to install streetlight-type lights on the path that goes from the top of the hill to the playground and to do this as soon as is possible.

“Lough Lannagh is one of the finest facilities in any town in Ireland and is in constant use by hundreds of people every day. The extra lighting on that hill will not only add to the facility but also is essential for the safety and security of the those using Lough Lannagh.”
