Anger over vandalism in grounds of east Mayo town's friary

The town of Ballyhaunis is up in arms over an incident of vandalism which occurred in recent days.

The local community council has posted an image of its Facebook page of the damage caused in the ground of the local friary.

A statement by the council outlined: "One of the most important functions council is our role as the community body on the Abbey Trust, which holds the lease of the Friary and grounds for the community.

"Alongside other local groups and Mayo County Council, we are also part of the Abbey Partnership which oversees the management of this wonderful amenity.

"It's with great anger that we have seen vandalism in the grounds which offer recreational space to so many."
