Application for infrastructure to roll out broadband in west Mayo

NATIONAL Broadband Ireland is progressing its plans to roll out broadband in west Mayo.

It has submitted a planning application in respect of the installation of electronic communications apparatus at Killeen, Killadoon, Cloonlaur, Louisburgh, which has been chosen as a suitable network point in the design of its fibre broadband network for the area.

A Section 5 exempted development declaration is before Mayo County Council.

Documentation submitted to the council sets out how the proposed site, which will house a green-coloured cabin, is off the R378 near the church in Killeen. It will have no impact on three local scheduled monuments.

Its height (three metres), colour and setting in between existing buildings also means it would not impact on local scenic routes.

The equipment in the cabin will be exclusively for transmitting, receiving and processing of telecoms data for a wired network. There will be no antennae on or within it.
