Replacement mast for north Mayo town approved

EIR has been granted planning permission to replace its telecommunications mast in Killala.

The existing 20-metre high monopole structure at the eir exchange, Townplots East, Killala, will be replaced with a 24-metre high monopole.

Council planners felt the visual impact with the new height was negligible due to the monopole design and there would be no additional impact.

Eir submitted to planners that the existing infrastructure was inadequate to fulfil the current and forecast demand for new technologies and communication services.

A taller monopole structure would accommodate more operators and achieve the required wider 3G and 4G coverage.

Existing customer demand is not being met and significant coverage improvement is needed.
