Overcrowding pressures persist at Mayo emergency department

Fourteen patients are awaiting beds at Mayo University Hospital today.

Seven are in the emergency department and seven in wards elsewhere.

It has been a very busy week for the emergency department in Castlebar with high numbers of patients presenting daily and having to wait many hours for medical treatment.

Nationally, 440 admitted patients are waiting for beds, according to today’s INMO Trolley Watch.

Up to 333 patients are waiting in the emergency department, while 107 are in wards elsewhere in the hospital.
