Funding to address 'totally neglected' Mayo road

THE Rathbawn Road in Castlebar has been awarded Active Travel funding.

Welcoming the allocation, Councillor Ger Deere said he hopes to see footpaths repaired and lighting improved under the scheme.

"It is a totally neglected road," he told a municipal district meeting.

The lighting, he said, must date back to one of the first publing lighting systems in the town, on timber poles, and it was terrible.

There are a lot of housing estates out that road and the whole area needs attention.
