Mayo community mourns passing of Mick Monaghan
The town of Castlebar is mourning the death of Michael (Mick) Monaghan of St. Bridget’s Crescent.
In his 93rd year, he died peacefully, surrounding by his family, in the wonderful care of Mayo University Hospital following a short illness.
The deceased was a member of the transport section of the former Castlebar Bacon Company and travelled the length and breadth of the country delivery meat products.
He subsequently became a driving instructor and was always very kind and helpful in his dealings with people.
A native of Balla, Mick was an accomplished traditional Irish musician, playing the bodhrán and harmonica with immense skill at music sessions throughout the region.
A widely popular personality, he was a wonderful neighbour and will be greatly missed by everybody who knew him.
Predeceased by his wife Nan (née Denning) and brothers John and Hubert, he is deeply regretted and remembered by his loving family: son Andrew, daughter Michelle (Costello), son-in-law David; daughter-in-law Mary, grandchildren Martin, Aine, Adam and Aidan brothers Jim and Tom, sisters Kathleen and Delia; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, neighbours and friends.
Deepest sympathy is tendered to the bereaved family on their loss.
Reposing at the Coady Funeral Home, Castlebar on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. with removal at 11 o’clock to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m.
Burial takes place afterwards in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
