US Congressman’s praise of Mayo man’s book
'From Our House to Your House' is the title of a song recorded by American country music artist Buck Ownes in 1968.
It's also a frequently-seen message on greeting cards sent overseas to family members or friends.
However, when 'Our House' refers to the US House of Representatives, Washington DC, it most definitely signifies a message from a very special 'House'.
Congressman Conor Lamb, representing Pennsylvania's 17th District, recently received a copy of Mayo man Michael Larkin's book Making the Right Connections.
Mr. Lamb was so impressed with the book that he took time from his busy schedule to mail a complimentary, handwritten note to the author's home in Derrew, Ballyheane.
The personalised note, written on official headed paper bearing the gold-coloured US House of Representatives seal, is indeed a very special 'From Our House' message.
Congressman Lamb, from Pittsburgh, has declared his intention to be a candidate in the 2022 US Senate elections, representing the State of Pennsylvania.
Making the Right Connections, written by Michael Larkin, depicts the journey of his ancestor Thomas Larkin, who, following his emigration to the USA, became one of the early telephone pioneers of America with the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania.
The book also encompasses themes relating to emigration, milestones in the evolution of telecommunications and an overview of the social history of Ireland and Irish America in the early 1900s.
A limited number of books are available from Castle Bookshop, Castlebar, and other good bookshops, or online at www.MayoBooks.ie.
Congressman Conor Lamb will be hoping to 'make the right connections' in his quest to become a Pennsylvania State Senator.
