Appeal for witnesses following serious Mayo crash
GARDAÍ have been at the scene of a serious road traffic collision that occurred on the N5 in Swinford.
The incident happened at approximately 12.25 a.m. this morning (Wednesday) when a car and a HGV truck collided on the stretch of road between Charlestown and Swinford.
Two occupants of the car were seriously injured.
A male passenger (70s) was taken to Mayo University Hospital where his condition is described as critical.
A female passenger (50s) was transferred to Beaumont Hospital where her condition is described as serious.
The driver of the car is also receiving treatment in Mayo University Hospital for serious but what are understood to be non-life threatening injuries.
The N5 had been closed between Swinford and Charlestown with traffic diversions in place - but it has has now reopened.
The services of garda forensic collision investigators have been requested earlier.
Gardaí are appealing to any people who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any person who was travelling on the N5 between Charlestown and Swinford last night between midnight and 1 a.m. and who may have camera (including dash cam) footage is asked to make this available to investigating gardaí.
