Mayo International Film Festival set to thrill audiences

DEDICATED to providing a much-needed platform for burgeoning production companies and independent filmmakers alike, the Linenhall Arts Centre is honoured and excited to host the inaugural Mayo International Film Festival (MIFF) from February 25 to 27.

The Linenhall is built on a foundation that recognises and celebrates the immeasurable talent that Co. Mayo has to offer, so while simultaneously screening contributions from international filmmakers, MIFF is extremely proud to host a category specifically for Mayo based filmmakers - ‘Best of Mayo’.

A key focus of the festival is also to promote the west of Ireland as a stellar filming location, which can be witnessed first-hand through several films shot on location in Mayo that will be screened as part of that category.

Running over three days, MIFF comprises eight separate programmes, bursting with Irish and international titles, across a wide range of genres. Seventy-three short films, documentaries and animations from Ireland and around the world, including nine world premieres and 12 Irish premieres will be screened.

Ticketing options include individual programme passes or an ‘All Access’ festival pass. Full details can be viewed at www.thelinenhall.com.

The festival concludes with a special awards ceremony on Sunday, February 27, when six winners will be announced for the categories Irish Short Film, International Short Film, Irish Short Documentary, International Short Documentary, Animation and Best of Mayo.

Selecting the winners, is a judging panel of highly experienced and esteemed industry professionals, including Academy Award nominees. This event is free but booking is compulsory via www.thelinenhall.com.

CREATIVE COFFEE

Another highlight at the arts centre this month, is the latest Creative Coffee gathering on February 21 with special guest Patrick Dexter, fresh off the heels of his remarkable performance at the Linenhall’s Inside Outside event.

A globally recognised cellist, Dexter relocated from Dublin to Mayo to take solace from the hectic buzz of city life, and to search for environmental inspiration with a change of surroundings. Arguably, he chose one of the most beautiful places in the world.

This is a free event, for artists of all disciplines, but spaces are limited so booking is strongly advised.
