Central Mayo pub planning decision appealed

A PROPOSAL to extend and reopen a vacant pub in central Mayo is before An Bord Pleanála.

Extension plans at the long established Kate Kelly's pub at Skehanagh, Ballintubber, were turned down by Mayo County Council.

That decision has now been appealed to An Bord Pleanala.

The case is due to be decided by the appeals board by early June.

Under the proposal it is intended to construct a single storey extension to the side and rear of the existing pub including bar, dining, kitchen, toilet, circulation, storage, staff and ancillary areas, a partially covered external courtyard area (with dining and bar seating) to the rear, plus new vehicular site access with a new rear car park.

Traffic hazard along a national secondary route where the maximum speed limit applies was one of the reasons cited in the council's decision to refuse.
