Disappointment over N26 upgrading timeframe

An elected member of Mayo County Council has expressed disappointment with a reply to his question at a meeting of the Mayo Roads strategic policy committee in relation to progress on the N26 road between Ballina and Foxford.

Councillor Seamus Weir said he was informed that even though the project can only be considered for upgrading under the minor projects realignment programme, it will not be done within the next five years.

Councillor Weir also told the the meeting the road from Mount Falcon to Shraheen is a death trap.

The meeting was informed that a sum of €100,000 will be used to advance the next stage of the N26 project, Mount Falcon to Foxford.

A further €200,000 is assigned to the Ballina Orbital Route to link the N26 to N59.

Councillor Annie May Reape said she will be working with council officials and local TD Dara Calleary to advance both projects as quickly and effectively as possible.
