Mayo flagship event confirmed for April 30

Mayo Day returns in what is set to be the largest flagship event to date on Saturday, April 30.

‘Home to where the Heart is’ will see the county town transformed into a hive of Mayo Day celebration and artistic wonderment with something for all the family and for all age groups.

Returning for the 8th year on its dedicated day, on the Saturday of the May bank holiday weekend, the theme of Mayo Day 2022 is Home to where the Heart is, which will form the opening of ‘Home to Mayo’ a month long series of events taking place in locations right around the County.

In advance of a formal launch, the cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Councillor Michael Smyth, welcomed the plans.

He stated" “Mayo Day is a celebration of the 'Spirit of Mayo’ in communities worldwide, an acknowledgement of all that is great about our county and its people, a day in the calendar year that Mayo people can claim for themselves.

"This flagship festival event is a fitting way to celebrate our achievements and success by showcasing the finest of art, craft, design, food, music, sport and more.

"After what has been a difficult two years, it will be wonderful to see the very best of our county showcased at this unique event.

"I invite families across the county, country and further afield to attend what promises to be a superb event in Castlebar for Mayo Day 2022.”

The multifaceted flagship event will see the county town represent all parts of Mayo, showcasing our artists through spellbinding art trails, the finest Mayo food and craft offerings, engaging and fun workshops and activities for all the family, a dedicated history and heritage quarter and that’s before the organisers even start on the headline acts that will take over the music hub.

There is so much more to be announced in the coming weeks in relation to what to expect at this event.
