Passing of former Mayo primary school principal

The death has occurred of Martin Christopher Loftus, Breaffy, and formerly of Thomas Street, Castlebar.

He passed away peacefully earlier today at Galway University Hospital after a short illness borne with dignity, courage and acceptance and surrounded by his loving family.

A much-loved and respected national school teacher, he was a former principal of Cornanool N.S., Castlebar.

Predeceased by his infant daughter Marianne, his parents Aggie and Pat, sister Mary, and brother Patsy Foy, Martin will be dearly missed by his loving wife Marie (née Gibbons), daughters Ruth and Siobhan, sister Antoinette, brother Tommy, sisters-in-law Una and Mairin, brother-in-law Padraig, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, relatives, neighbours, former teaching colleagues in Cornanool National School and his many dear friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Remains reposing at the Thomas Street Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

Removal on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, followed afterwards by a cremation ceremony in Shannon Crematorium at 4 p.m.
