Serious overcrowding pressures at Mayo emergency department
Twenty-eight patients are on trolleys at Mayo University Hospital today.
Of those, 19 are in the centre's emergency department with nine in wards elsewhere.
Proposals to extend the emergency department have been approved by the Department of Health.
But the work is unlikely to be completed until 2025 at the earliest.
Nationally, 526 admitted patients are waiting for beds , according to today’s INMO Trolley Watch.
Of those, 434 patients are waiting in the emergency department while 92 are in wards elsewhere in the hospital.
