Mayo athlete among team to feature at European Athletics Throwing Cup

The European Throwing Cup takes place this weekend (March 12 and 13) in Leiria, Portugal, with a team of eight athletes representing Ireland – including Swinford Athletics Club's Michaela Walsh.

The decorated Mayo athlete, who takes on both the senior women’s shot put and hammer, recently took top spot in the shot put at the Irish Life Health National Indoor Championships. At the AAI Games, Walsh secured both her new PB of 15.47m and a first-place finish. In the hammer it will be a debut performance of the season for the Mayo woman.

Following a busy 2021 season filled with podium finishes, Michaela will be looking to build on her successes.

Also in the team are Eric Favors (Raheny Shamrock), who throws in the senior shot put, James Kelly (Finn Valley AC), who will participate in the Under 23 shot put, and Nicola Tuthill (Bandon AC), who takes part will go in the Under 23 hammer.
